In 2001, Jodie Brenton and her associate Mary Magalotti realised there was a dire need for accessible and quality mental healthcare across Australia. As a result, Life Resolutions was born, and in the 15 plus years since its inception, has seen a meteoric growth. Today, Life Resolutions is a national group of psychologists and allied mental health practitioners, with more than 50 practices and affiliates across the country. Life Resolutions has a strong commitment to providing Australians, no matter their age or background, with the highest standards in counselling and professional psychological care. We have a team of highly qualified therapists in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and surrounding regions, who are experienced in assisting clients to live the healthier and happier lives they deserve.

As Australia’s first and only psychology private practice franchise, Life Resolutions was a novel idea, but it came with its fair share of challenges and hurdles. For starters, the concept was an alien one, and consequently faced resistance from many orthodox practitioners around the country. Around that time, the psychology industry was fragmented, and had no structure or economic foresight. As a result, any new franchisee who joined the Life Resolutions network needed first to be trained in the basics of business practice, as well as the unique systems and processes of the franchise.

Back in the early 2000s the topic of mental health came with its own stigma attached to it, and those who sought out mental healthcare were often perceived as mentally ill, deranged or mentally handicapped. The entire concept of positive psychology and its benefits in helping the mental health needs of individuals was still new, and was only just gaining popularity. As a result of this, psychologists were made to feel that they had a duty to their community to provide their services, and did not always feel that it was appropriate to charge people for it. This ethical conundrum still persists even today, as many do not realise that training to become a certified psychologist is a lengthy and expensive affair.

However, despite these difficulties, Life Resolutions was able to devise a system for a successful psychology franchise, and the fruits of their labour are paying off today.
